To train 200 HCP in 20 cities on basic diabetes care, prevention, and managementTo train 120.000 diabetes patients in self-managementTo implement trainings in cities with the highest refugee rates
The project intends to refine and scale up outcomes of completed project WDF11-626. The project scale up will be combined with a response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Turkey.Firstly, the project will train Family Health Employees (FHEs) to become patient educators skilled in diabetes prevention and care. The trained FHEs will then be responsible for implementing diabetes education sessions for diabetes patients and establishing patient support groups. The project model will also be rolled out in areas where Syrian refugee populations reside. The project materials will be adapted to the refugee context and translated to Arabic. Training of Syrian health care staff recruited among the refugee population and education sessions for Syrian refugees living with diabetes will be undertaken.Project outcome will be assessed by evaluation tests and changes in HbA1c / BMI levels.
