Communicable diseases and injuries are still the major causes of death in Niger but the risk of dying from one of the four main NCDs have increased to around 20 % over the years. According to the WHO, non-communicable diseases are increasingly common in Niger and the diabetes prevalence is estimated to be 4.3 % by both WHO and IDF, making it one of the highest in the sub-region.With only three endocrinologists working at national level hospitals in the capital the challenges are numerous and there is an urgent need to have trained staff and equipped health care facilities across the country. To contribute to the decentralisation and improvement of diabetes care in 5 regions in Niger
