Objective
The project aims to establish and communicate the global impact of diabetes.
Expected impact
- The Diabetes Atlas will raise awareness of the magnitude of the diabetes burden and stimulate action for prevention of the disease
Results to date as of September 2004
- The publications; a 360-page publication in English, the Diabetes Atlas second edition has been published along side with a 56-page executive summary in English, French and Spanish and a CD-ROM of graphics from the book
- A symposium was held on the opening day of the 18th IDF World Congress; and a global media campaign including press conference at the launch of the publication, press releases send to international and national media
- Impact; more than 5,000 copies of the publications distributed to key target groups. Information quoted or referenced in at least 70 media outlets with combined circulation figures of well over 15 million.
Key message of the rising global number of people at risk of developing diabetes was picked up by at least 90% of the media outlets quoting the Diabetes Atlas. Information from the book has been translated into nine languages
