While type 2 diabetes and other "lifestyle diseases" occur, for the most part, later in life. The habits and attitudes which cause them are formed as we grow up.
We would like to help get across to children that sensible diet and regular exercise need to become a way of life...but it doesnt have to be difficult or boring!
There are lots of ways to join in. It could be as an entire school, class by class, or even by getting the parents involved.
You can "simply walk" for 30 minutes... or you can be even more creative! Here are some of our suggestions:
- Sponsored Walk - raise money for the school; support local diabetes groups; or help people with diabetes in the developing world
- Treasure hunt / quiz – ‘healthy knowledge’ guides you around the school grounds
- Walk and learn - Lessons on the move!
- Walking buses - leave the car at home and walk with your child to school
- Your ideas - We would love to hear your ideas and plans. They could provide inspiration to others.
