Walk and learn
If you are near a park, wood, hillside, or even a quiet part of town, why not take the kids out in small groups for a lesson "on the move"? You can learn about nature, geography, history, the environment, and so on....
Preparation:
- Map the route
- Consider safety issues – follow the rules at your school.
- Arrange transport if necessary.
- Prepare talk about the things to see along the wayalong the track. Perhaps there is a local "expert" that could act as a guide.
- Consider letting the children collect leaves, nuts, and other objects for projects when they return to the school. (Remember to bring plastic bags etc.)
- You may like to have lunch while you are out. Suggest "healthy" lunches, snacks and drinks, avoid fast food, ice cream, soft drinks and sweets.
- Think about the weather!
- Register your walk on the Global Diabetes Walk website; www.globaldiabeteswalk.net
