Projects funded to date
The World Diabetes Foundation has funded 236 projects to date, covering 94 countries.
The projects funded by WDF focus on diabetes awareness, education and capacity building at local, regional and global levels.
Multiplier effect
Project portfolio: USD 223.7 million of which USD 76.6 million were donated by the World Diabetes Foundation. The total value of the project portfolio is based on USD/EUR/DKK exchange rates stipulated and in operation from the 26th August, 2008.
Impact
The projects funded by the World Diabetes Foundation have the potential of directly influencing the diabetes treatment of 75.9 million people in the developing countries.
Established by Novo Nordisk A/S
The establishment of the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) was announced by its founding father Novo Nordisk A/S on World Diabetes Day 2002.
A donation programme by the founding company of a maximum of DKK 650 million over a period of ten years was approved by its General Assembly and shareholders in March 2002.
In March 2008, the shareholders of Novo Nordisk A/S approved of an additional endowment of a maximum of DKK 575 million over another ten year-period, bringing the two endowments from Novo Nordisk A/S up to a total maximum of DKK 1.2 billion in the period 2001 - 2017, i.e. equivalent to USD 255 million (exch. rate 4.8).
The Foundation is a independent and non-profit foundation governed by the Danish Act on Foundations. The Foundation is supervised by the Civil Affairs Agency, Danish authority for non-commercial foundations.
The sum of DKK 1.2 billion is an estimated amount which may vary in a positive direction depending on the operating results of Novo Nordisk A/S in the coming years.
An independent trust
The World Diabetes Foundation is registered in Denmark as an independent, non-commercial foundation.
Administration cost
The World Diabetes Foundation strives to keep its administration costs at a reasonable level, totalling 7.99% of the income of the year in 2009. |
