2nd diabetes center has been opened
25 May (Wednesday) On the Buddha’s birthday, the day before yesterday, there was an opening ceremony of Diabetes center in the District hospital in the Orhorm Province.
The center established by World Diabetes Foundation and JDA is the 2nd center to diagnose and treat diabetes. The opening of this center – with the purpose to prevent and treat the world threatening diabetes - has been announced yesterday.
The risk survey for diabetes conducted in capital city and 4 provinces in 1999 shows that mode than half of the people above 35 years old are obese and have problem with high blood pressure and gluco hemoglobin. 3.2% of the people from this survey had type 2 diabetes, which gives us the estimation that approx. 60,000 people have diabetes in Mongolia.
45% of those people do not go to the hospital and only 1,600 people go to see the specialists. This means that approx. 50,000 people do not receive treatment. It is very valuable to have the special clinic for diabetes in order to diagnose and treat the patients and to prevent the disease. This also gives opportunity to provide further information and education on this disease to the nation.
The service/help to diabetes in Mongolia was initiated by WHO and WDF.
The realisation of this project is the result of collaboration among WDF, WHO, NNPL, Ministry of Health in Mongolia, Health Science University of Mongolia and both Mongolian and Japanese diabetes association.
