Our legal basis

The establishment of the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF)was announced by its founding father Novo Nordisk A/S on World Diabetes Day 2002.

A donation of max DKK 1.1 billion (equivalent to USD 207 million) has been granted by Novo Nordisk A/S for the period of  2002-2017.

The Foundation is an independent and non-profit foundation governed by the Danish Act on Foundations. The Foundation is supervised by the Civil Affairs Agency, Danish authority for non-commercial foundations.

The World Diabetes Foundation is entitled by the Danish taxation authorities to receive donations from individuals and legal entities.

The Foundation is governed by a six-member board of directors under the chairmanship of Prof. Pierre Lèfebvre. Day-to-day operations are vested in the WDF Secretariat under the management of Dr. Anil Kapur, Managing Director.
