Objective

The project seeks to improve the quality of life and promote a change in attitude among people with diabetes towards self care and personal responsibility, and provide the information and resources to facilitate healthy lifestyles.

Expected Impact

  • 14 regional diabetes information centres will be established
  • 42 doctors and nurses will be trained to run the centres
  • 2,250 people with diabetes will receive in-depth training on self care
  • Seminars will be held in each region for physicians to strengthen early detection of diabetes

 

Results as at December 2005

  • 14 diabetes centres established, covering all regions of Uzbekistan. The centres will function as information points and diabetes schools for high risk groups and people with diabetes
  • 42 doctors and nurses working in the diabetes centres have undergone 5-day training on improved diabetes care and diabetes education
  • By the end of the project the diabetes schools have provided 3200 patients with depth information
  • Creation of a website for distributing information through the network of associations managed by the Tashkent office of the Association of Endocrinologists; www.diabet.iguzar.com 
  • Seminars involving 720 participants were held in 14 regions. The seminars for doctors and nurses focused on early diagnosis of diabetes and to improve the quality of prevention for patients as well as for the general population.  Providing the doctors and nurses with training in first aid and education on consultation services for diabetic patients
  • At the end of the project it is believed that it provided such conditions to improve the quality of life of more than 80,000 people with diabetes
