Objective
The project seeks to improve the understanding of diabetes among health care staff and create public awareness on prevention, control and risk factors.
Expected Impact

Regular diabetes clinics established in all district hospitals and public health centres, totalling 42 diabetes clinics and 200 mini-clinics
-
500 doctors, 1,000 para-medicals, 3040 nurses, 250 dieticians and 2,500 lay educators will be trained on diabetes prevention, management, control and risk factors
-
250,000 people with diabetes will receive diabetes education annually
-
5 million people without diabetes will be reached through education on risk factors and healthy lifestyles
Results to date, June 2007

42 main clinics have been set-up in district hospitals

113 diabetes mini-clinics have been set-up at dispensaries and health centres

308 doctors, 1,279 nurses, 616 paramedics, 243 dieticians and 3,338 lay educators have been trained

619,833 people with diabetes have received diabetes education
-
3,330,271 people so far have been sensitised by awareness activities done by educators and volunteers in the communities - typically religious gatherings, schools, work places etc.

12,366 people have been screened during World Diabetes Week and the Annual Diabetes Walk alone
-
92,201 people have been screened for diabetes. 9,309 had diabetes - 1,364 of them were unaware of their condition
