Board of Directors

The World Diabetes Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of six experts in the field of diabetes and access to health in developing countries. The Board convenes four times a year.

 

Chairman, Professor Pierre Lefèbvre

Professor Lefèbvre received his MD Degree and PhD at the University of Liège in 1959 and 1967, respectively. Professor Lefèbvre is presently Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Liège and Consultant at the Liège University Hospital. Professor Lefébvre is the former President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).

Vice Chairman, Leif Fenger Jensen

Mr Leif Fenger Jensen has been with WDF since its establishment and inauguration early 2002 as the Managing Director. Before joining WDF, Mr Jensen worked at Novo Nordisk for more than 10 years. Mr Jensen has presently been appointed as Vice President of Strategic Operations at the Novo Nordisk Office in Zürich.

Professor Ib Bygbjerg

Professor Bygbjerg is a Professor in the Department of International Health at The Panum Institute, Denmark. As a specialist in tropical medicine and infectious diseases, Professor Bygbjerg has shared his expertise with organisations including the Danish Ministry of Defence, the World Health Organization and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ida Nicolaisen

Ms Nicolaisen is the Vice Chair of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues which is an advisory board with a mandate to discuss issues related to economic and social development, culture, health and human rights. Ms Nicolaisen serves on several boards such as DANIDA, the Foundation of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik, International Human Rights and is an advisor for UNSO, the Sarawak Museum and World Wildlife Foundation on different matters.

Lars Rebien Sørensen

Mr Sørensen is president and CEO of the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk. Through this position Lars Rebien Sørensen is one of the founding fathers of  the World Diabetes Foundation.

Dr Kaushik Ramaiya

Dr Ramaiya is Consultant Physician and Assistant Medical Administrator at Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr Ramaiya holds several other honorary appointments such as Vice President, International Diabetes Federation and member of the Board of National Health Insurance Fund, Ministry of Health, Govt. of United Republic of Tanzania.
