Board of Directors
The World Diabetes Foundation is governed by an independent Board of Directors comprised of six experts in the field of diabetes and access to health in developing countries. The Board convenes four times a year.

Professor Lefèbvre received his MD Degree and PhD at the University of Liège in 1959 and 1967, respectively. Professor Lefèbvre is presently Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Liège and Consultant at the Liège University Hospital. Professor Lefébvre is the former President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). |

Mr Leif Fenger Jensen held the position as the first Managing Director of WDF from 2002 to 2005. Before joining WDF, Mr Jensen worked at Novo Nordisk for more than ten years. Mr Jensen is presently appointed Corporate Vice President of Global rewards at the Novo Nordisk office in Bagsværd, Denmark. |

Professor Bygbjerg is a Professor at the Copenhagen School of Global Health at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. As a specialist in tropical medicine and infectious diseases, Professor Bygbjerg has shared his expertise with organisations including the Danish Ministry of Defence, the World Health Organization and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |

Ms Nicolaisen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, Copenhagen University, and former Vice-Chair of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. Ms Nicolaisen serves on the boards of the Human Rights Network of Academics and Scholarly Societies, ALLEA's Standing Committee on Ethics, Foundation of H.R.H. Crown Prince Frederik, Humanity in Action and Søren Kirkegaard Research Center (Chair). |

Mr Sørensen is President and CEO of the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk A/S. Through this position Lars Rebien Sørensen is one of the founding fathers of the World Diabetes Foundation. Mr Sørensen is a member of the Board of ZymoGenetics, Inc, US, and DONG Energy A/S, Denmark, as well as a member of Bertelsmann AG Supervisory Board, Germany. Mr Sørensen received the French award Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur in 2005. |

Dr Ramaiya is Consultant Physician and Assistant Medical Administrator at Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr Ramaiya holds several other honorary appointments such as Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation and member of the Board of the National Health Insurance Fund, Ministry of Health, Govt. of United Republic of Tanzania, and a member of the Medical Council of Tanganyika.
