Do we have to walk at the same time? |

We recognise that this could be difficult for people in some parts of the world. The most important thing is the walk itself rather than a world record. Therefore, we would rather you held a walk at a time to suit you and your participants than not at all. You will still be able to make use of the support materials and be eligible for certificates for those taking part. |

Has this been done before? |

The first ever Global Diabetes Walk was held in 2004. You can read about it here. There was another walk in 2005 and 2006 with even more people involved. |

Who can take part |

Everyone who wants to! There are no restrictions on participants.
This year, since the event is on a weekday, we would particularly like to encourage schools, NGOs and corporate business to join in. |

Can we get money from the Global Event Team for our activities? |

Unfortunately not. The Global Event Team will provide tools, support and advice on a global basis, however we do not have the funds to support individual events.
Bear in mind that it does not require a lot of money and resources to take part. A small event of 10 or 20 people is still an important contribution to the global event – and in many cases it may be easier to set up many smaller events than one big one anyway.
Should you decide to go for the “big one”, you may be able to find other groups that would be willing to share the cost and effort with you. The website will provide you with a list of events in your area. |

Can we form partnerships? |

Oh yes, partnerships are actively encouraged! We want to reach out to as many people as possible - not just those already aware of the diabetes problem or conscious of their health – everyone!
Local schools, hospitals, scout groups, sports centres are good places to start, however consider other places where people meet regularly: village halls, restaurants, bars, cafes, supermarkets, petrol stations, places of worship, golf clubs, football clubs… the list is endless!
The Global Event Team places no restrictions on those taking part, however if you are part of a larger organisation you should find out if you have your own limitations regarding potential partners. |
