Report on NCDs in developing countries  

Chronic diseases are currently the cause of 60% of all deaths worldwide -
the majority of these occur in low and middle-income countries

In order to address these facts, Danida, in partnership with the World Diabetes Foundation, hosted the International Conference on the Emerging Burden of Chronic Diseases and its Impact on Developing Countries in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 15 - 16 April 2010. The conference gathered leading public health, development assistance professionals and government representatives from North and South to present and discuss the implications of NCDs in low and middle-income countries - and to address the consequences of not facing up to the reality of the rising pandemic. The conference report provides a situation report on NCDs in developing countries - in text and visual graphic. For immediate advocacy purposes, the report also contains specific action points and recommendations to be used by donors, national governments and civil society organisations.     The conference report is now being released and can be download in pdf-format here.
