Objective

The objective of this project is to provide treatment and raise awareness about diabetes and diabetic retinopathy among rural communities. 

Expected impact

  • 2 mobile eye clinics established and equipped 
  • 600 health care personnel trained 
  • A number of community health volunteers trained 
  • Between 8,000 and 12,000 diabetes patients with diabetic retinopathy will receive free laser treatment

Results to date

  • 2 mobile eye clinics have been established and equipped.
  • 350 health care providers have been trained at Pisanuloke and Khonkan Hospitals.
  • More than 1,000 technicians / community nurses have been trained.
  • 150 ophthalmologists have attended a retinal workshop at the Royal Collage of Ophthalmologists.
  • 762 people have received free laser treatment in the mobile units.
