Sponsored walk
A walk is one of the most popular ways of raising money for a good cause. You can ask family, friends or the local community to sponsor an amount per kilometre or minute walked. You may consider some form of recognition for the person raising the most money.
Preparation
Map the route - at least 30 minutes. Consider safety / practicality issues. Think about the weather. Prepare sponsorship forms and distribute in good time. Register your walk on the Global Diabetes Walk website www.globaldiabeteswalk.net
On the day
Remind everyone why we are doing the Global Diabetes Walk. Explain about diabetes and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Remember that you are not alone - thousands of others around the world will be walking with you. Remember to update your results and photos on the website. Have fun! What to do with the collected money? That is up to you! We hope that you will spend it on something to do with diabetes. For example promote a healthy lifestyle within - perhaps some new sports equipment for your school or workplace.
