The project aims to improve the capacity of the Sudanese health care system to deliver, manage and monitor services for the prevention and treatment of diabetes.
Expected impact
Around 90,000 people with diabetes will have access to good diabetes care
47 doctors and 60 diabetes educators will be trained in diabetes prevention and treatment
20 diabetes mini-clinics at local level and 8 diabetes units at general hospitals will be established
Results at completion
More than 50,000 patient have received optimum diabetes care
Establishment of health facilities: 25 diabetes mini-clinics: 6 in Gezeira, 6 in Khartoum, 3 in Northern State and 10 in the River Nile State. A total of 4 diabetes units and 2 diabetes centres have been created covering the 4 participating states
Training courses were conducted in collaboration with WHO, training 80 doctors and 76 educators
A national workshop attended by more than 20 participants, representing the private sector, pharmaceutical companies, public corporation groups, social sectors and NGOs has been held
