Objective

The project seeks to improve prevention and control of diabetes in Ogun State, Nigeria.

Expected impact

  • 120 health care workers trained 
  • 20 non-communicable disease clinics established 
  • An estimated 500,000 people screened for diabetes and exposed to awareness activities   

Results to date

  • Letters of commitment have been obtained from the State Minister of Health nominating 20 state hospitals to establish NCD clinics. Visitations to all hospitals have been conducted.

  • 377 health care providers have attended the 5-day general training programme and 176 the advanced programme on diabetes.

  • 14 different educational flyers have been produced and are to be used in the established NCD clinics.

  • A questionnaire on knowledge of diabetes and hypertension among health workers in all selected hospitals has been distributed and data is being analysed.

  • T-shirts, caps and notebooks with logos have been produced and distributed to health care providers at the NCD clinics.

  • The project has established an office located in Sagamu town.

  • World Diabetes Day was celebrated on 14 November including screening of 597 participants. The event got wide media coverage.
