Criteria for support
The World Diabetes Foundation provides financial support to projects in developing countries included in the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) List of ODA Recipients 2011-2013.
The project must:
- describe a realistic and controllable project with focus on diabetes
- require minimum funding from the World Diabetes Foundation for infrastructure, and
- be sustainable or long-term, which means that it must be able to continue after the funding from the World Diabetes Foundation has ended.
This may be ensured by:
- having one or more reliable partners involved (with a successful track record within prevention and management of diabetes)
- involving a local champion in the project
- obtaining co-funding from other partners
- obtaining the political goodwill of the country/area in question
The World Diabetes Foundation does in principle not support bricks and buildings, basic laboratory research, travel grants or training grants.
*For applications from India, please note that WDF has supported a very large number of eye projects in India. Until further notice, it has been decided by the WDF Board of Directors not to support any new eye projects in Indian States which have already benefited from an eye project.
