Criteria for support
The World Diabetes Foundation provides financial support to projects in developing countries included in the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) List of ODA Recipients 2008-2010.
The project must:
- describe a realistic and controllable project with focus on diabetes
- require minimum funding from the World Diabetes Foundation for infrastructure, and
- be sustainable or long-term, which means that it must be able to continue after the funding from the World Diabetes Foundation has ended.
This may be ensured by:
- having one or more reliable partners involved
- involving a local champion in the project
- obtaining co-funding from other partners
- obtaining the political goodwill of the country/area in question
The World Diabetes Foundation does in principle not support bricks and buildings, basic laboratory research, travel grants or training grants.
