In general Novo Nordisk India made an outstanding contribution on WDD by organising more than 100 walks in India with the estimated participation of 40.000 people.

Dr.Abhay A.Mutha Diabetes Care Research Foundation and Lions Club jointly organised World Diabetes walk on 14th November 2007 in Pune India. It was a great walkathon this time as school children, doctors, Pharma Reps, social leaders, etc. attended and made this event very memorable. The entire events arrangement was done by Mr Nilesh V. Kale, Senior Marketing Executive from Novo Nordisk India Pvt. Ltd.

Global Diabetes Walk was organised by Alur hospital for Diabetes care and research center Davangere, Karanataka in India.

Co-ordinator Dr.Manjunath Alur consuting diabetologist, Alur hospital for diabetes Davangere. Hundreds of participants joined the various activities.

Other Walks was arranged by Dr. A. Ramachandran’s Diabetes Hospitals and India Diabetes Research Foundation (IDRF) joined the Global Diabetes Walk at Chennai, on 14th November 2007 to raise awareness among the general population and on the need and importance of walking in preventing and managing diabetes.

School students both boys and girls along with their teachers from Central Chennai, Health Educators and Dieticians from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu participated. Thousands of people including diabetes patients participated in "The Human Chain". Key messages were conveyed through Banners, Placards and Hand bills, besides children raising slogans on life style changes.

Dr. K.V .R.Krishnaji, Chairman R.R.Lions Eye Hospital celebrated the World Diabetes Day with a diabetic walkathon on 14th November between 9.30 am to 11.30 am.

The doctors of I.M.A Branch Palakol, Lions of Lions Club of Palakol, M.L.A, Muncipal Commissioner and Muncipal Chairman participated in the rally. The children from various schools participated in the rally as well.

The rally started from Outskirts of Palakol from 4 corners at and the rally ended after 2 hours. At the end of the rally many speakers spoke about diabetes.

On behalf of the World Diabetes Day, WDF-Aravind Diabetic Retinopathy Project conducted Rally programme at Bahour Kasthuribai Govt. Girls Higher Sec. School, Pondicherry.  The Programme arrangement was made by Pondicherry French City Rotary Club.  The rally programme was flagged by Dr. Thiruvengadakrishnan, Camp Medical Officer and Rtn.Shanmugam, President, Rotary club and the School vice Principal Mrs. Lalitha was participated the programme.

Around 600 School students, Teachers, Club volunteers and Aravind staff participated in the rally Programme. It was started at the School, and it covered 3 kilometers of the village. The programme was arranged by Mr. Arul, DR Project Co-ordinator.

Uttar Pradesh

Responding to appeal of UN and IDF to organize 246 steps walk, the Uttar Pradesh Madhumeh Association UPMA, organized several functions in Lucknow, the capitol of India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh.

UPMA was represented in these functions by Dr. L.K. Shankhdhar, Dr. Uma Shankhdhar and Dr. Kshitij Shankhdhar.

Approximately 300 persons joined the 246 step march, preceded by an Awareness Talk on Diabetes by Dr. L.K. Shankhdhar, at Sahara Trade Centre’s auditorium on 14th November. The march was led by Assistant Director Worker of Sahara group, the biggest Corporate House of India, Mr. Sudhir Kumar.

Second walk was organized at a degree college, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, located at Gomtinagar. The walk was attended by approximately 300 school children and staff members, led by Dr. Veena Sharama, Principal of the college and Dr. Kshitij Shankhdhar, Secretary of UPMA. We received updates from other offices and approximately additional 400 people walked in different offices.

Therefore, in all 1000 people walked on our inspiration.

Virudhunagar

Around 350 people took part in a Global Diabetes Walk in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. The walk started after a diabetic patient education and a diabetic detection camp. The walk led through a residential area and the main road of the town. Slogans advocating for healthy diet and excercise were chanted during the walk and pamplets of the same was also given to the people on the road.

Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu

The students of Sri Jeyandra Saraswathi Swamigal Golden Jubilee Matriculation higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli, formed a UN WORLD DIABETES DAY - DIABETES WALK & HUMAN CHAIN on 14th November 2007. 500 participated in the walk.

The program was organised in association DIA CLUB & SANKAR HOSPITAL, Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu.
