Unite for Diabetes Film receives international award

In fall 2006 the Unite for Diabetes Film was nominated and awarded the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle Award in the category Professional non-fiction division. Amongst the nominated were some of the major TV broadcasting companies such as CNN and NBC.

The CINE Golden Eagle Award (Celebrating Excellence in Film, Video and Media Awards) is awarded for excellence in documentary and other informational film and video production. Founded in 1957 by a consortium representing business, education, and government to depict life and thought realistically for a global audience, CINE continues to recognize and foster the highest quality of non-theatrical film and video production through its semi-annual competitions.

The Unite for Diabetes film was produced within 14 days based on existing WDF film footage captured from projects around the world and supported by the latest key messages from the IDF Diabetes Atlas, third edition.

The WDF was proud to support the official “Unite for Diabetes” campaign with this exclusive film production in collaboration with IDF and FilmSolutions NNIT. The film was officially launched at the IDF campaign press meeting in ADA Washington 2006.

As recipients in partnership with NNIT FilmSolutions we see the CINE Golden Eagle Award as a true recognition of our joint awareness and advocacy efforts in communicating the burden of diabetes that has gained acknowledgment amongst the international media and will furthermore boost the future promotion efforts of the UN Resolution on Diabetes on World Diabetes Day 2007, says Dr Anil Kapur, managing director of WDF.

To date WDF have distributed close to 1000 copies of the film to various diabetes stakeholders including the media.

The International Diabetes Federation’s corporate partners in the Unite for Diabetes campaign has played a crucial role in distributing and promoting the film thorough their company employees worldwide, Ministries of Health and local diabetes associations.

"At FilmSolutions we are very proud of receiving this prestigious award and being able to assist the World Diabetes Foundation in the important task of improving the lives of people with diabetes in the world’s poorest countries", says Mr Keld von Eyben, Producer, FilmSolutions NNIT.

"We use our medium and the moving images as an instrument to amplify the people’s voices to become a global cry for help. Voices that we hear and feel in our hearts when we return to Copenhagen to edit the films with the deepest respect and humble mind. Because we have seen the problems and witnessed the despair amongst those who put their trust in us to tell their stories".

Former recipients of CINE Golden Eagle Awards include; Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Charles Guggenheim, Spike Lee, Mel Brooks and many others distinguished for their work with the moving image.
