Setting up a specialist clinic for NCDs and diabetes in Victoria to improve quality of diabetes treatment

700 people with diabetes attended to in the clinic in the first year. The majority of known people with diabetes with poor cardio-metabolic control could be seen within less than 3 years
A register of all people with diabetes will allow proper monitoring of health care and complications rates
Results to date
A temporary NCD clinic has been established under the auspice of the Ministry of Health.
Equipment and reagents to test blood sugar, lipids and microalbuminuria have been procured, and basic equipment such as weighing scales and blood pressure machines have been made available.
A group of newly diagnosed patients have undergone blood and urine testing and have received counselling to improve management and compliance. Group educational sessions of 10 patients have been held on different aspect of diabetes care including medication, nutrition and foot care.
