Montes Claros

3168 people lead by the Mayor of Montes Claros, Dr. Athos Avelino, braved the rain to mark World Diabetes Day 2006 by joing in the Global Diabetes Walk 2006.

After an aerobic warm up, they were still able to keep up with the carnival float with the huge banner as it drove around the streets.

At the end, blood glucose testing was offered to those who wanted it.

Maranguape

Dr Jose Carlos Iramendi Gil organised a Global Diabetes Walk in Maranguape city, which lies about 30km from Fortaleza, capital of Ceará, Brazil. 50 people were expected to walk with him but nearly double that number turned up!
