Prof Dr.Hendromartono, Head of PERSADIA Cabang Surabaya, and his team organised a great event for 2300 people. The walk started with an aerobic warm up before taking to the streets.

The walk was promoted on their website www.PERSADIA.com and received considerable coverage on Radio, TV and in the newspapers. A couple of thousand people took part in the actual walk but many thousands more across the country heard about the problem of diabetes!

186 people took part in a walk organised by Dr Paul Harijanto from Bethesda hospital in in Tomohon town, about 30 km from Manado, the capital of North Celebes.

 

He says that the population there has the highest rate of diabetes in Indonesia and it getting worse. In 1987 it was 6.7% and now is over 10 %. The Global Diabetes Walk is a great way to raise awareness in the local community and encourage regular exercise and healthy diets.
