Crawley - Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Limited

In cooperation with Radio Mercury and the K2 leisure centre, Novo Nordisk organised the biggest GDW event so far in the UK. Three walks were held during the day to enable as many people as possible to take part.

Crawley Town football team joined in for the second year for the first walk around the track at K2. In addition to the people that attended the centre, many thousands more heard about diabetes via local radio.

The final walk of the day was supported by local cadet organisations, marching to drums and bagpipes. "A fantastic end to a busy day" said Walk Coordinator Jackie Rivers. The cadets were celebrating 50 years of providing out of school physical activities for local teenagers. They also raised sponsorship money to help people with diabetes around the world.

Crawley - Sussex Curves

Jo Manhire, the Walk Coordinator writes: "We were a group of 9 ladies who belong to a women's only gym called Curves. We had a good time (even in the rain!) and we certainly turned a few heads with our pink banner!"

Hayling Island

Edward Brigham sent in these pictures and told us a little about the walk. "It was raining at 7.00am when I awoke, and was still raining at noon. The forewcast was for further showers all afternoon."

Instead of turning over and going back to sleep, Edward organised a walk for members of his Walking To Health group and the local diabetes organisation and, despite the rain, everyone had a good time!

"The social side of the walk WAS FANTASTIC. I invited everybody into the local café for tea/coffee and everybody joined in, chatted happily as if old friends. Credit where due, The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Richard Brown led the walk, led the socializing and actually, to my embarrassment, paid for the drinks. He really was great!"
