Dr.N.Murugesan, Project Director of the joint DRC-WDF Project in Chennai informed us that more than 1500 people walked between 8. am to 9. am. The participants included N S S volunteers, school teachers and students, health educators, doctors and hospital staff. The walk was "flagged off" by Dr. A. Ramachandran, Director of the DRC – WHO Collaboration center.

There was excellent media coverage both electronic and press and a number of V.I.P's took part including Dr. Shobana Ramachandran, Assistant Director DRC – WHO Collaborating center, Mr. Munuswamy, General Manager, State Express Transport Corporation and Mr. Thangaraj, Inspector of Police.

Dr Murugesan also informed us that a further 20,000 people were expected to take part in other walks in the region during the day.

Davangere

School children, doctors,medical students, senior citizens, Representatives from various NGO's, diabetic patients, government officals, the district commissioner, the city's munciple president and members of the public took part in the Global Diabetes Walk 2006.

In all, 1200 people covered a distance of three and a half kilometres. The walk ended with a diabetes education programme for all.

Gulbarga

Mahantest Manure of Novo Nordisk was the coordinator of the Gulbarga walk. In total 450 children and members of the public took part.
